No, not all popular music sounds the same," this spreadsheet takes Billboard's top 25 singles from every year from 2000 - 2018 and categorizes them by Energy, Mood, Tempo, Style, Genre, and Sub-Genre. In addition, certain songs are also categorized by topics I stopped using as the spreadsheet developed, such as the topic of the song and the type of instrumentation (acoustic / electronic) used. For those lacking Microsoft Excel, a .csv file has been provided alongside a standard Excel .xlsx. The .csv can be opened in Open Office's Excel equivalent and Apple's Excel equivalent "Numbers."
In addition, a pivot table is present in the spreadsheet such that the data can be sliced and visualized as was carried out in the video above. For your convenience, a preview video discussing the use of the pivot table to work with the data has been provided!
Please note: pivot table functionality is not available in the .csv file.
